Advent means "coming". It is a time during the church year that really has two focuses. One, we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Two, we prepare our hearts for Jesus' final return. It is real easy to do the first. It is exciting to decorate and set up the nativity and plan ways to include the birth of Jesus' narrative in our devotions and activities. The second one is a little more difficult. We do not think about this one as much as we should. In fact, our minds and lives are so busy with everything else that we very seldom think about Jesus' return.
The Gifts of Christmas Series is centered around the Advent Wreath. Each candle that we will light on the Advent Wreath is a reminder of the irreplaceable gifts that God gave to us that very first Christmas. As an additional candle on the Advent Wreath is lit each week, As more and more light is added each week, we anticipate and celebrate the birth of The Light of the World, Jesus.
